Data Removal & Correction Requests

Scam Checker doesn't require an account to use the checker and doesn't store content pasted only for analysis. Separate features may persist scrubbed private report evidence and moderated report groups, contact enquiries, a confirmed weekly-alert email with Resend, short-lived HMAC rate-limit buckets, and bounded threat-intelligence cache entries. Optional signed-in services also store a verified email until you delete the account. If you recognise a reported value — or want a copy of data we hold about you — you can ask us to remove, correct, or export it.

What you can request

• Removal of a specific scam report from the public listing.
• Correctionof a value, country, or note that's wrong.
• Copyof any report tied to a value that's personally yours (so you can verify what we hold).
• Removal of a contact enquiry, confirmed newsletter address, or anything else you sent us by other means.
• Deletion of an optional account directly from the account page. This revokes sessions, anonymises the email, and removes family access; limited billing/security audit evidence is retained. For your protection, deletion requires a sign-in within ten minutes and is paused until every subscription that can renew is cancelled with its provider.

Images and documents selected in the checker never leave your browser, so there is no uploaded file for us to delete.

How to ask

Email privacy@scamchecker.app with:

1. The value or report ID you want actioned (e.g. the masked email shown on /reports).
2. What you'd like done (removal, correction, or copy).
3. A short reason — useful context if you're correcting something.
4. A contact email we can reply on (we'll only use it for this request).

What we do with it

• Genuine removal / correction requests are typically actioned within 30 days.
• We'll reply confirming what was done, or explaining if we can't (e.g. a request to remove every report about a known scam URL would defeat the site's purpose and won't be honoured by default).
• The request email is used to verify and complete the action. We remove it from the operator's working inbox when the request and any required audit follow-up are complete, subject to the email provider's backup-retention controls.

Children's data

Scam Checker is not directed to children under 13 (16 in some EU/UK contexts). If you believe a child's data was submitted — by them or by someone else — please email the address above and we'll remove it on receipt without requiring further proof.
